Geeknicks

Geeknicks and Lunch Seminar FAQ’s.

The Geeknicks hosted by Adcap over the last few years continue to grow in both frequency and attendance every month. As they get more popular, our vendors and customers ask us the same questions over and over. Here are the answers.

Q: When and where is the next Geeknick being held?

A: See the Adcap Events schedule on this page: http://www.adcapnet.com/category/events/

Q: What are Geeknicks and how are they different from lunch seminars?

A: Adcap lunch seminars are held for about 90 minutes over lunch at a nice restaurant. It is where we invite local representatives from the vendors that we resell to talk about their new products, architectures, and solutions. It is a great way to get a quick update from local salespeople and engineers about things you and your organization might be planning on doing soon.

Geeknicks are completely different. Adcap’s geeknicks are a four hour technical deep dive on one specific topic. It is where our solution architects and deployment engineers discuss and demonstrate technologies and solutions that we are designing and putting in place at customers today. The information attendees learned can be applied directly to the networks and applications that they are managing currently. Adcap engineers provide education on techniques they use in deployments and troubleshooting. Everything discussed is of a tactical practical nature.

Q: What information can I get at a Geeknick that I cannot get anywhere else?

A: Geeknicks were designed to supplement the vendor training and certification programs that provide excellent information yet sometimes lack the real world advice, shortcuts, and other advice that comes from an expert who does these types of designs and deployments daily can provide.

Q: Why does Adcap allow their engineers to provide advanced technical information to customers at no cost instead of billing them for services that Adcap could be doing for these same customers?

A: There are a few different reasons that we like to host the Geeknick events. The first reason is that it gives our engineers an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and experience with an audience that appreciates it. The second reason is that we are able to demonstrate advanced features and capabilities of the equipment we have already sold our customers, which makes them happier with their now more useful purchase. Finally, we like to let our customers know how good our engineers are, both on the design and deployment side, so that when they have a new project they will think to call us first.

Q: Are there going to be salespeople at the Geeknick?

A: Sometimes Adcap salespeople drop by at lunch time to say Hi and get some free food, but anytime they try to sit through the technical session their brain usually gets fried and they leave quickly.

Q: I am with one of Adcap’s vendors and I have a hot new technology I’d like to show your Geeknick audience. Can I do that?

A: Usually the answer is no. Please do not take it personally, but our Geeknick audience expects to be able to attend and get four hours of useful information that is relevant to the design or operation of their existing systems, which usually falls into an explanation with demonstration of how to use these types of systems:

  • Cisco Unified Communications
  • LAN and WAN design, operation, and management
  • Network Security
  • Servers, Storage, and Virtualization

Q: Who are the Geeknick presenters?

A: See more information on their website at http://www.geeknick.com
