Union General Hospital

Introduction

Located in Blairsville, Georgia, Union General Hospital is a modern, state of the art medical facility that provides the local community with a variety of comprehensive medical services, including inpatient rooms, women’s services, a clinical laboratory, and multiple departments including surgical, critical care, emergency, and diagnostic imaging.

Problem

When Union General built a new facility in October 2006, management knew it was time to replace the 15-year-old phone system. Not only had the hospital outgrown the phone system’s capacity, but moving the antiquated system would have been a complex process that wasn’t worth the time or hassle.
Around this time, Cisco representatives contacted IT Manager Walt Stafford about the possibility of installing a complete Cisco LAN. It was decided that Cisco technology was ideal for the progressive facility, and through a direct recommendation from Cisco Systems, Walt contracted with Adcap to implement the plan.

Solution

Adcap Network Systems replaced the 15-year-old phone system with a full Cisco LAN upgrade, including the installation of approximately 200 phones. Cisco technology was implemented throughout the entire hospital including routers, firewalls, switches, two Call Managers, and a Cisco wireless network that provides a very convenient and user-friendly environment.
Additionally, through careful research and collaboration with hospital staff, Adcap was able to gain an in-depth understanding of their needs to offer additional solutions. Adcap maximized the full potential of Cisco’s products by integrating IPcelerate with Cisco’s Call Manager software – allowing on-demand recording and hands-free two way nurse/patient calling which increases patient care.

Results

In addition to enhancing patient care and streamlining caregiver processes, the Cisco system installed by Adcap has provided Walt and the entire Union General IT team with a simplicity they hadn’t experienced before.
