Introduction
Located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, Citrus Health Network is one of six Federally Qualified Health Centers that provides comprehensive healthcare services to medically underserved and uninsured residents.
The bilingual physicians and nurses at Citrus Health Network take an inclusive approach to wellness—treating both the body and mind—by integrating primary and preventive healthcare services with behavioral medicine to ensure that each individual’s needs are identified and met.
Problem
Citrus Health Network’s six locations were operating on an aging Nortel phone system that was becoming increasingly difficult to expand—especially as support from Nortel declined. Simultaneously, the network’s maze of cables and mix of switches, originally installed in 1992, was becoming taxing for IT staff to maintain. It was determined that upgrading to voiceIP was ideal in order to meet the demands of future growth while maximizing ROI.
Solution
Adcap Network Systems managed a complete overhaul of Citrus Health Network’s data and voice network with a full Cisco LAN Solution. Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) was utilized to distribute calls, Cisco Unity was installed for integrated voice and data messaging, and Cisco Unified Workspace Licensing (CUWL) was chosen to manage licensing for the full suite of Cisco Unified Communications applications.
Results
The new Cisco network is very scalable, making changes and expansion simple. “We only had to run one set of cables in our new building for phone and data, which saved us a good deal of time and money,” said Citrus Health CIO, Renan Llanes. “Now, as people move offices they just take their phone with them. The IT staff no longer has to manage it.” Citrus Health staff enjoys internal extension dialing and phone/cell phone integration, while IT staff benefit from CUWL. “Licensing is now much easier to manage.”
